AI is proud to announce that a new National Society has been formed in Germany. From the pioneering work of gerontologist Alfred T Hoffmann (pictured), local societies have been formed in Kassel, Bad Emstal, Bad Arolsen and Dauphetal. These societies have come together and formed a new National Society which was formally adopted by Abbeyfield International on October 21st 2008

October 2008 - It is with great sadness that we report the passing of the founder of the Abbeyfield movement, Richard Carr-Gomm at the age of 86. Visionary, idealist and social reformer he set up the Abbeyfield, Carr-Gomm Society and Morpeth charities in a lifetime of service to his fellow man.

Abbeyfield International is saddened to announce the death of Susan Carr-Gomm, wife of Abbeyfield’s founder, Richard Carr-Gomm. Susan died after a very short illness at the end of last month.

Abbeyfield International is extremely saddened to report the sudden death of Peter on Saturday 1st September 2007.
He was General Secretary of AI from 1996 to 2003 during which time he saw the expansion of AI in countries such as Australia,
Canada and South Africa. He also helped sow the seeds for the first house in Japan and for the formation of Abbeyfield Poland.
