Dick Stanton RIP
Dick Stanton died on 26th August 2009, aged 90.
Allan Snowie, Chairman of Abbeyfield International writes....
What sad, sad news. Dick looked so well and lively when I saw him in Guelph just a couple of weeks ago. Still with the 'Abbeyfield twinkle' in his eye when he spoke of our concept. Dick Stanton knew that his time was short -- but what a man -- he was a crusader for us to the very end.
Dick's passing is a tremendous loss to not only Abbeyfield Durham but to Abbeyfield Canada and to our International Abbeyfield Societies. We must do our very best to honour him by emulating his work and his efforts. Dick found the key to self-funding Abbeyfield Houses and he will always be remembered for this most common-sense approach to raising monies to build Houses.
My sincere sympathies go to Marion his wife, and we thank her for sharing Dick with us over all these years. God bless aye, Allan
from Rhonda Flanagan, Director Abbeyfield Houses Society of Durham and Markdale
It is with regret I must let you know that our good friend, mentor and visionary, Richard Stanton passed away last night. Although the last few days he was "under the weather" , yesterday he was working hard with several meetings here at Abbeyfield Durham working on the creation Abbeyfield Houses Society of Markdale, a project close to his heart. After dinner he decided to go to the hospital to get checked over, and he passed quietly soon as he arrived.
